This morning at approximately 7:42 a.m., when the victim arrived at Dover Elementary to drop off one of her children she was confronted by the suspect (the victim and suspect have three children together, ages 1, 2 and 8 months). The victim had an adult male friend in the vehicle with her. The suspect which was armed with a handgun approached the vehicle and got into the passenger seat with the friend in the backseat. The suspect told the victim to drive away from the school. As they were driving, the friend in the back seat sent a text message to his girlfriend instructing her to call the Sheriff’s Office. The girlfriend called the Sheriff’s Office where she was able to provide the whereabouts to dispatchers. Deputies stopped the vehicle in the area of McIntosh Road and Interstate 4 where Lopez was taken into custody. He has been transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital to be medically cleared as he told deputies he was feeling faint.
The victim has a Domestic Violence injunction against the suspect for a previous battery that occurred in Plant City and was investigated by Plant City Police Department.
We are not releasing the friends name as he is considered a witness. The handgun was recovered, which was a pellet gun. |
