Family and friends will fill Falkenburg Road Jail on Thursday, December 12, as Sheriff Chad Chronister swears in 32 new deputies to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Graduating Law Enforcement Class 1903 has worked months to prepare both mentally and physically for their new roles patrolling Hillsborough County and protecting and serving its residents.

Among the graduates will be Deputy Jorge Gonzalez, whose family fled Cuba back in 2008 when he was just 13 years old. No stranger to adversity, Gonzalez's commitment to becoming a law enforcement officer in Hillsborough County was put to the test when he broke his hand during the last law enforcement academy class, which delayed him from graduating. Deputy Gonzalez worked hard to recover from his injury. He will proudly walk with the new graduating class on Thursday.

Media outlets are invited to attend the graduation ceremony. Anyone interested in covering the event is asked to RSVP with the HCSO Public Affairs Office by emailing piocommandcenter@hcso.tampa.fl.us
